Merge branch 'nd/resolve-ref'

* nd/resolve-ref:
  Rename resolve_ref() to resolve_ref_unsafe()
  Convert resolve_ref+xstrdup to new resolve_refdup function
  revert: convert resolve_ref() to read_ref_full()
