* contrib/examples/git-commit.sh: use the $( ... ) construct for command ↵Elia Pinto2015-12-27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | substitution The Git CodingGuidelines prefer the $(...) construct for command substitution instead of using the backquotes `...`. The backquoted form is the traditional method for command substitution, and is supported by POSIX. However, all but the simplest uses become complicated quickly. In particular, embedded command substitutions and/or the use of double quotes require careful escaping with the backslash character. The patch was generated by: for _f in $(find . -name "*.sh") do perl -i -pe 'BEGIN{undef $/;} s/`(.+?)`/\$(\1)/smg' "${_f}" done and then carefully proof-read. * contrib/examples/git-commit.sh: avoid "test <cond> -a/-o <cond>"Elia Pinto2014-06-09
| | | | | | | | | | | The construct is error-prone; "test" being built-in in most modern shells, the reason to avoid "test <cond> && test <cond>" spawning one extra process by using a single "test <cond> -a <cond>" no longer exists. * examples/commit: use --abbrev for commit summaryJonathan Nieder2010-07-27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | After v1.7.1.1~17^2~3 (pretty: Respect --abbrev option, 2010-05-03), plumbing users do not abbreviate %h hashes by default any more. Noticed while investigating the bug fixed by v1.7.1.1~17^2 (commit::print_summary(): don't use format_commit_message(), 2010-06-12). * Port git commit to C.Kristian Høgsberg2007-11-22
This makes git commit a builtin and moves git-commit.sh to contrib/examples. This also removes the git-runstatus helper, which was mostly just a git-status.sh implementation detail. Signed-off-by: Kristian Høgsberg <krh@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
